Default Is this a hole in the block

(5.7l Hemi / 2004 Ram 1500) I have a dumb question, but is this a big hole in the block or is it machined this way? This is my brother's truck which had zero oil in it & refuses to turn over - wanted to confirm that this wasn't made that way before I tell him he'll need a new motor. Hole is right behind the power steering pump. Thanks

I think that is a hole that is NOT supposed to be there..... Might drop the pan, see if it tossed a rod up front there.

Yea its not supposed to be there, assuming you drained then pan when saying theres no oil in it. Could watch for junks coming out otherwise. I would find it weird to lose all its oil out the hole, its so clean and its above everything, unless it opened an oil galley and pumped it out, but it still seems really clean

I think that hole is to far forward for a rod, I would more wonder if the timing chain broke and got all bound up and popped the whole.

Working on dropping the pan, didn't realize how much of a pita that would be

He broke down on the side of the road & it had no oil when I got there. Working on dropping the pan now, a lot more stuff to remove than I originally expected

Front of oil pan

Rear of oil pan
Ok dropped the pan enough to see before I have to undo motor mounts & lift it. Seeing what looks like shiny stuff & same various metal pieces - any ideas what those are?

Dropped the pan far enough to see inside before removing motor mounts & lifting it. Seeing what looks like shiny sparkles & various metal pieces - any idea what those are?

Idea enough to know you just as well pull the motor. Hard to say for sure though big piece looks almost like it could be a rod cap or a chuck of the oil pump, that round spacer is more interesting though, not sure if brass or plastic, also could be from the oil pump
