Take A Ride In The Dodge Viper ACR Extreme
Track Day Youtube channel host declares the Dodge Viper ACR Extreme is the most phenomenal car he has ever driven.Â
The Dodge Viper ACR Extreme is, well, a more extreme variant of the Dodge Viper ACR. Go figure, right? The Extreme nomenclature refers to the extreme aero package, which adds the front diffuser, canards, and a handful of other aero extensions and goodies compared to the standard Viper ACR. It is undoubtedly the most outstanding variant of the road-going Dodge Viper.
In this video posted to the Track Day Youtube channel, host Dan Wang takes us on a tour of the Dodge Viper ACR Extreme and gives us the rundown on what makes it so great and what it is like to drive.
Insight on the monstrous Dodge Viper ACR Extreme
“Not much is different powertrain-wise between this and normal gen five viper. It’s still a front-engine rear-wheel-drive behemoth that makes 645 brake horsepower and 600 pounds of torque, all from an 8.4-liter naturally aspirated V10. Think about that for a second, 8.4 liters. That’s more displacement than a medium-duty commercial truck,” says Wang.
As we previously mentioned, the ACR Extreme gets its name from the Extreme Aero Package, which Wang dives into.
“What makes this car an ACR E is the Extreme Aero Package that combines the aggressive front splitter, canards, diffuser, and massive dual-element rear wing to create almost 1,800 pounds of downforce. Couple that with the ridiculous 335 wide rear Kumho semi-slicks, and you basically have a street-legal racecar that will eat Ferraris for breakfast,” he continues.
He goes on to explain that the interior is similar to a normal Viper. Additionally, he adds that the Viper ACR Extreme has a lot more storage space compared to most track-oriented cars compared to most track-oriented cars.
So let’s get on to what you really want to know. What’s it like to drive?
What’s it like to drive a Dodge Viper ACR Extreme?
After switching to an orange Viper ACR Extreme, Wang takes it through a series of tests at an airport. First, he tests the straight-line performance and handling capabilities. It falls short of other vehicles in the straight-line test. However, that’s to be expected. Downforce is an irreplaceable asset when it comes to handling. It does, however, add drag. Who cares about straight-line performance with a Viper ACR? Right? Right.
The ACR and especially the ACR Extreme are built to demolish corners. Though the Track Day handling course is new and not many cars (none comparable to the viper, especially) have gone around their course, it tops the list to nobody’s surprise.
“It screams uncompromised raw American horsepower with an unexpected handling capability without a need for electronic assistance. That’s basically impossible to come by these days,” says Wang.
Ultimately, Wang describes the Dodge Viper ACR Extreme as the most phenomenal car he has ever driven. But, again, nobody is going to be surprised here. The Viper ACR and its incredible engineering for track purposes make it one of the most fierce cars to come from the U.S.
