Dodge Challenger Turbo Runs 9.21-Second Quarter-Mile

Gorgeous Dodge Challenger with Cuda design twist makes quickest pass ever at 2017 Modern Street Hemi Shootout.

A few weeks back, the monster Mopar muscle cars of the Modern Street Hemi Shootout headed to Milan Dragway for the 3rd stop of their 2017 schedule and sadly, rain brought an early stop to the racing – but not before Greg Bundy and his wicked Dodge Challenger set a new personal best time of 9.21 seconds at 152.33 miles per hour.

As you can see in the video, Bundy’s Dodge Challenger features the classic 1970 Plymouth Cuda AAR look along the side with the unmistakable stripe design as well as a classic 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A style hood, but the appearance of this modern Mopar muscle car is only the tip of the iceberg.

Greg Bundy bought his 2008 Dodge Challenger new and since then, he has transformed it into one of the quickest street-legal modern Mopar muscle cars in the world. This Challenger is powered by a modern Hemi measuring 426 cubic inches, built by Billy Briggs Racing Engines, topped with a set of ThiTek cylinder heads and fitted with a turbo setup from Stage 6 Motorsports, while Aeromotive and Injector Dynamics handled the fuel delivery and the whole system was tuned by “The Jersey Boy”.

Greg Bundy Challenger Launch

That wicked boosted Hemi sends its power through a Paramount Performance super pro NAG1 transmission with a transbrake and a Ford 9 inch rear differential helps put the power to the ground when coupled with a substantial chassis build from EC1 Race Cars in Davidson, Michigan.

Greg Bundy’s Challenger is easily one of the meanest modern Mopar muscle cars in the world and even with a slick track at the Milan stop of the Modern Street Hemi Shootout, this bright orange beast was able to lay down its quickest quarter mile time ever. After pre-staging against the orange Charger SRT8 in the far lane, Bundy uses the “bump box” to jump into the staging beams while the engine revs and the turbo screams, and when the green light drops – his boosted Challenger rips away from the starting line.

Although traction was an issue for most of the other competitors at this rain-soaked event, Greg Bundy was able to get good enough traction with his boosted Dodge Challenger to run his new best time – 9.21 at 152.33 miles per hour. Seeing this Mopar monster run in person is incredible, but with the speakers cranked up, you can get a good idea of how sweet this Challenger sounds on launch.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
