Wicked Wednesday: The World’s First Twin Turbo Ram TRX
It can still jump and drive off-road, but with as much as 1,500 HP this twin turbo Ram TRX will also embarrass many supercars.
With a 6.2L supercharged Hemi V8 making 702 horsepower the Ram TRX is already a kick ass truck that leaves all others in the dust. But what if you want to not only be faster than all the trucks out there? What if you want to hunt supercars?
Well, then you are going to need even more power. How much more power? Try roughly double the power that a stock TRX puts down. What you are looking at here is the world’s first twin turbo Ram TRX. And it has the ability to crank out as much as 1,500 horsepower which takes the TRX from fast truck to Ferrari killer.
This week’s “Wicked Wednesday” is all about this twin turbo Ram TRX. Michael Hyssong is the owner of this super truck that was modified by Ripatuned.
Hyssong recently picked up his newly turbocharged truck from the Ripatuned shop in New Jersey. The joyous moment of delivery along with some obligatory racing antics were posted on the Street Speed 717 YouTube Channel. If you thought the stock TRX was an insane truck, just wait until you see and hear what this beast can do. Let’s check it out.
Pick Up Day
Picking up a new truck is always exciting. But picking up the first twin turbo Ram TRX will make anyone as giddy as Hyssong appears to be when he shows up at the shop for delivery. “Can we race on the way home?” Is the first question Hyssong asks.
The good news for all of us is that the answer is yes. Even better news is that despite the two new turbos and the extra plumbing required, the TRX has lost none of its off-road abilities.
Everything is secured and tucked up under skid plates, so you can still treat this just like any other TRX. It will even still accommodate 37-inch tires.
The Next Day
Once back home the next day Hyssong crawls all around and under the truck giving us a close up of the build details. Underneath the truck we get a good look at the actual turbos and wastegates.
From the cats back everything is factory, so emissions should not be a problem. Your gas mileage, however, might be a disaster but you are not buying one of these to sip fuel.
Peeking under the hood everything looks neat and tidy. The intake and catch can are the only obvious changes. The factory supercharger is still in place, so this truck has all the forced inductions.
According to the Ripatuned website this kit is capable of running on everything from 91 octane up to racing ethanol. Power is said to range from 800 to 1500+ horsepower accordingly.
Time to Get Dirty
This is where the twin turbo Ram TRX is really fun. “I have never in my life seen a truck that can move sideways as fast as it can go forward.” Says Hyssong.
He is just sliding that truck effortlessly around the muddy field. It also is not afraid of jumps as he launches it into the air and the truck takes it brilliantly.
No battery falling out or intakes getting disconnected. Despite the off-road abuse the truck is no worse for wear except for a little mud.
We doubt that whipping this truck around a field like this will ever get old. But we still have to see what this baby can do on the road.
TRX vs. Twin Turbo TRX
The stock TRX rips to 60 mph in less than 4 seconds. It is a fast truck. And the twin turbo TRX absolutely destroys it. As in gaps it by bus lengths destroys it. From a roll, from a dig, giving the stock TRX the jump, it doesn’t matter.
The twin turbo TRX makes the stock truck look like it is stuck in the mud. With the truck now being this fast it is only fair to wonder what it could do against true performance cars. That is coming as Hyssong plans to put it up against his Lamborghini Aventador to see which comes out on top.
But here is what we know right now. There is no way the Lambo can drive through a field and jump over streams the way the twin turbo TRX can. This truck can do things that don’t even seem possible in the real world.
