1974 Dodge Ramcharger

This 1974 Dodge Ramcharger pop-top without the door frames was only produced for half a year. This one might be the best remaining example.

A Dodge Ramcharger is awesome. A 1974 Dodge Ramcharger in extremely rare full pop-top spec is even more awesome. And since we are committed to providing you with the most awesome content out there, we present to you this uber rare Ramcharger. Believe it or not this beautiful truck was abandoned for about a dozen years in a storage garage. Then a father and son team swooped in and grabbed this piece of history. They have restored it to the condition you see here, and we think you will agree their efforts have paid off.

This week’s “Wicked Wednesday” is all about this 1974 Dodge Ramcharger pop-top. The full pop-top means that the doors do not have window frames in them. So, with this truck you really get the full convertible experience. Plus, it just looks bad ass. A walkaround video was posted on the Urban Survivors YouTube channel that details all of the bits that make this truck so special. And this video was shot at the top of Power Mountain ski resort in Eden, Utah. The truck handled the 20 percent grade roads like it was nothing. It might be rare, but it is no garage queen show truck.

What Year is This?

The diehard Ramcharger fans out there might be confused reading about a 1974 truck that doesn’t look like a 1974 truck. The reason for that is this Ramcharger wears a 1979 grille. The owner likes the quad headlights from the 1979 trucks so during the restoration he decided to make the swap. He also converted the headlights to full LED units so there is plenty of light for the road or the trail. At the rear there is a re-enforced tire carrier. The truck also rides on aftermarket wheels. The side exit exhaust looks and sounds terrific. It may not look exactly like it did in 1974 but this is a great looking rig with tasteful updates.

Step Inside

The front racing seats and harnesses are probably the first thing you will notice about the interior. The dashboard is original and could use a bit of attention. But it is serviceable and looks perfect in this truck. Speaking of serviceable, how about a Rhino-lined floor? No fancy carpets to worry about here. Get all the mud and dirt inside that you want and then just hose it all out.

Under the Hood

Pop the hood and you will find a mix of old and new.  The original stickers and original paint can be found under the hood. The 318 V8 was taken from a rat rod project car. It has a new Edelbrock carb, and that is just the start of the new bits. There is a new alternator, heater pump, windshield wiper motor, and master cylinder. This is all behind the original radiator that still works great and keeps everything cool.

This is a fantastic truck and well worth a few minutes of your time to see it featured in the video below. It has that perfect mix of some modern touches without being a full restomod yet retains that old school cool look and sound. Enjoy!
