Avenger reliability
Im about to get my license and ive been looking at cars and need to know how reliable the avenger is. I need a low cost reliable car, ive been looking an honda civics because they are well known for their reliability but usually have over 150-160k miles and would rather not get something with that many miles. I recently looked at the avenger and like the looks of the car, but havent heard anything about them. How reliable are they? Thanks for the help.

RE: Avenger reliability
My Avenger has 143K miles currently and runs like it just left the showroom floor. I mean, I keep up with mine as best as I can. Timing belt is a must around 130K (Which can be expensive unless you know a mechanic) But I am sure Civics are the same way...besides honda civics are like so played out.

RE: Avenger reliability
I've got a 98 avenger, 2.0 liter with a little over 118,000 miles on it. It needs the valve cover gasket replaced but other than that it has run really well and has been dependable. Its coming due for a timing belt soon. I change the oil, filters, spark plugs etc. on a regular basis. If you get one that has been taken care of and take care of it yourself then you should enjoy it.

RE: Avenger reliability
I have over 200,000 miles and haveless than $100 in repair. I have only hadto replace 1 sparkplug wire and 1 brake caliper, and two door handles ($20 new). It has just now started getting front end noise, but nothing serious. And I have definately not taken it easydriving thecarWith that I agree with silvercoupethatI depends on theowner. The lights on every avenger I've seen get cloudy, but you can clear them up yourself with some elbow grease.
