Default Little tranny question/problem??

I have a problem with my auto (98 venge 2.5 automatic). Everytime I slow down and turn or accelerate from around 20-35 mph I hear this clunck in the front left. I have replaced the front struts/mounting hardware, axles, and joints. Replaced the front motor mount and inspected the others. My noise is most noticeable when I slow down to turn and then put on a little gas and the clunk occurs. Always in the front left and very repeatable. One thing I did notice is if I manually shift into 2nd when slowing and preparing to corner and then D after accelerating it doesn't do it. It seems to me that tranny isn't going into 2nd gear on the down shift. Is this possible? If so any ideas?

I had the recall done about two months ago and I replaced both hub assemblies last fall.

Not really an answer, but just a thought: Is the transmissions on these cars computer controled or mecahnicaly opperated?
If it was computer controlled, may be a bad speed sensor or an electrical conector dirty?????
If it is mechanicaly controlled, possible to have a vaccume leak? Or kick down cable out of adjustment???? I know on Chevy trucks, the kickdown cable can get out of adjustment and cause all kinds of goofy stuff to happen. ( Also known as the Throttle Valve cable, or most commonly called simply the TV cable! lol. )

Like I said, not an answer. Just something to think about.

I guess I can't answer any of your questions but I think it's all electronic. One other thing I was wondering is if there is a shift selonoid that may be controlling the down shift?

Yes. there is a shift solenoid, but not inside the trans. Its called a solenoid pack. You may want to have a DRB3 hook up and ck for trans codes and the CVI's too.( Clutch Volumn Index ). Your clutch pack could be causing your clunk.

Is this something I need to go to a tranny shop to do? Or can I do the scan at an autozone or something?

I don't know if a trans shop or autozone has the cables to hook up to both connectors.

Well a little more info after driving and making some more repairs over the last year. The cluncking noise is-was coming from the rear lower control arms. The tranny doesn't seem to want to shift out of overdrive automatically unless I come to a complete stop. When I slow down for a turn and manually take it out of overdrive using the button on the shifter it work fine. What controls the overdrive down shift??
