Default New Skin

Well after a couple of years of putting up with the less-than-attractive paint job, I put it in the paint shop yesterday for a new one.

Before:

After:

Coming soon.

I initially decided on Emerald green pearl (original color) on the whole truck and camper shell while keeping the black trim to break it up a bit. I had the weekend to re-assess my decision and thought...I wasn't sure I could live with that generic 90's color and went with a color I "really" like. It's the color of my bass guitar, a warm, brick reddish color. I left the bass with them to have it scanned at the paint store for an exact match.

Still wondering if I should have the "DODGE" lettering on the tailgate in black... hmmmm....

If you really wanna have fun, do the Dodge lettering in a woodgrain vinyl that matches the neck of the guitar

Here's my latest work on the Dak - nothing too fancy, just a slightly lifted platform with carpet and carpet pad to keep me from having to sleep on the ribbed metal when I camp, and a cutout to hold my big box o' stuff so it doesn't fly when I am bouncing around off road.

Looking good on your bed-work BK! I haul band gear in mine sometimes so, I have a 1/2" black rubber mat in the bed. Not the easiest thing to load (the gear doesn't slide around at all) but, it stays where I put it.

Thanks for the suggestion but, I think I'll eventually find some black graphic (?) stick-on lettering for it.

Painter called this morning and said it's possible I get it back today but, it will most likely be tomorrow before she's ready.

The prep took a bit longer than they expected. The old paint & primer that I applied when I got the truck 2 1/2 yrs. ago was really gumming up their DA pads.

I told the guy everything on the truck works properly. I'm pretty OCD about all my lights working so, I hope they take care in insuring they still do when they put it back together. I cleaned all the connectors/sockets and applied dielectric grease on everything when I got the truck.

Guess I can wait one more day....

nothing today yet (just got woken up) but Friday nite I put a new rack n pinion in mine and new front brakes/packed the wheel bearings with new seals (why don't they build vehicles that way no more? Much easier/cheaper to fix if the need arises)
then yesterday I took it to the old shop I used to work at for an alignment and wound up doing most of the job myself... even though I quit that shop in 2005!
2 weekends ago I put up a 2 post lift in the garage man that helped tremendously being able to almost stand up under it to change the rack....

thought I was gonna just have to do a toe n go because it drove fine and didn't wear the tires a bit unevenly but once on the rack the toe was the only thing that wasn't way out of spec.... I counted the threads when I pulled the outer tie rod ends and put them back on the same amount onto the new rack, and the toe was actually near perfect (it was at least "in the green" with my rough settings unlike anything else was when I started to align it)
now gotta check out the popping and such when I let off the gas and push the clutch to shift... it also has a "flat spot" about 2500-3K RPM, actually accelerates better if I let off the gas a bit in that range. I saw reference earler in the thread about it being the crank sensor? Huh I've had 2 of them on this truck now; the original one I put in when I did the 5 speed conversion and the one I replaced it with when that one broke because I forgot to pull, when I had to get at the clutch the last time...
dam Chinamade throwout bearing went bad on me twice now... story for another day

this is a 93 CC w/a 318 has trans and computer out of a wrecked 94 318/5 speed truck. for the most part it runs good, it is my commuter vehicle 92 miles a day....
