How many bolts in the valve covers? Should be 10 if it's really a magnum. Factory, that should have been MPFI.....

Thanks Hey you, I wont get to see it until Friday! Ive been told it had a rebuild before the current owner bought it and he sent me the chassis number which confirms it should be MPFI, he said its always had a carb on it! Where would I find the engine number? Thanks Trev.

Are you sure you aren't looking at the throttle body on top of the motor? I thought mine had a carb when I took off the air cleaner the first time. It has Holly stamped on it and at a glance looks like a 2 barrel carb. Then I saw the fuel fail and injectors and it all made sense , lol.

There's a valid point. However, MPFI came about in 92, when Dodge went from the LA series engines, to the magnums.

Thank you both, I think that could be the reason I thought it had a carb on it, Im used to seeing the throttle body sideways on and not horizontal! You learn something every day, best regards Trev.

I bought a '93 new back in 1993. It had the throttle body that looked like a carburetor. My truck had the 3.9, but that's just a cut down version of the 318.

Yep, my '92 5.2 had MPFI as that was the first year for the Dakota w/a magnum. Throttle body FOR AIR ONLY was a Holley , & I'm quite sure a lot of discussions were started over FI vs carb.
