Default Loose Timing Chain?

On sudden throttle input, or above 2000rpm, my 89 V6 Dakota has a rattling noise coming from the engine. The Belts and Fan do not appear to be rubbing anything, so I'm wondering if this is what a loose timing chain sounds like?

The engine has 244,000 mi on it, and the chain has never been replaced.

Suggestions?

How hard is it to replace a timing chain/gear set?

Justin

There is an updated timing chain kit, because the chain does rattle. If would like the kit number PM me or post it. Leonard

Now that I have fixed my chewed vac lines, my truck runs worse. When I lightly press the throttle, it hessitates. Sudden throttle input revs ok. I got this wierd tail wagging the dog idle issue after a throttle input, and eventually it settles down. I'm thinking again, this points to a loose timing chain.

it def. sounds like a loose timing chain. Does it do it at idle as well? When mine went bad, it rattled at idle as well as when the motor had a load on.

Exclamation rattle near belts/fan/pulleys??

My fiance has a 05 dodge truck v8 5.7, this morning he heard a rattling noise near the pulleys/fan area, after he took the belt off and tried to see what was loose he put it back on and the sound seemed quieter, it makes the noise in idle and accelerating, he pulls a dual axle trailer with heavy loads every now and then. I've done a little research and keep coming up with tensioner or timing chain. He has just over 100,000 miles. Any ideas? Thank you! Rachel
