Default Fuel Tank Size

This question bothers me for a long time. I know the Dakota has either 15 gal or 22 gal gas tank. My 92 Dakota, however, I know it does not equipt a 15 gallon tank because the most I can fuel is around 17.5 gallon. Does it mean I have a 22 gallon gas tank? I can never put in more gas than 17.5 gal so where is the remaining 4 plus gallon? I know this question sounds dumb... oh well.

No you have the 15 gal tank. My 93' was the same way, I think ithas a factor of safety incorporated in the design.

If I would have to guess I would say that you have a 15-16 gallon tank. Most tanks have an additional amount of space for fumes. My Avenger has a 16 gallon tank but I can but almost 18in. Before you fill up again run as close as you can to empty and see exactly how much gas you canput into the tank.

I have the same problem. When the low fuel light comes on I can only put in about 18 gallons. That is as low as I let it get though.

i put in a new fuel pump a few months ago and didn't install it correctly. since it's cold out i haven't had the time or interest in fixing it, but i installed the pump wrong and the low fuel light and gauge always read empty.

i've run it dry on more than one occasion and i put in 22 gallons.
