Your "supposed" to do that with most automatic locking hubs/transfer cases, but its usually not necessary. It still really sounds like you have a tcase issue to me. If you have the transfer case in neutral at any time the truck should move freely.

I guess I dont understand the term sticky? Do you mean it has more drag than normal? Sorta like your towing something?

Try this. Put the transfer case in 4wd, then pull it into neutral and get under the truck. See if the front driveshaft will spin freely by hand.

To me it also sounds like a transfer case problem. Like as if it is not fully disengaging 4wd. Could be a simple adjustment on the sift linkage.

Yeah, still sounds like a t case issue to me too. One thing I didn't think of when I was giving you advice is... why would it just simply slide into neutral if it wouldn't slide into 2wd without problems!!!

My next idea is put it in 4x4, make sure 4x4 is fully engaged, pull the shifter back into 2wd, jack up the back axle and try spinning the tires by hand. If they spin (should spin in opposite directions if you have an open diff and the driveshaft shouldn't spin at all), then there can't be any binding in the rear axle.

And skyshark, its lke the parking break is half way on, then once you get to a certain speed, it goes back to normal.

I dont have nothing to do tmrrw so i'll try to do some diagnosing.

It's a live front axle, the driveshaft will never spin with the tires on the ground.

Try backing up after taking it out of 4wd, the constant forward pressure can keep the t-case locked in 4wd, I know my truck will do it..

With the front axle just lift one tire off the ground or both if you want. if you have 4 jack stands just lift it totaly of the tires.

Dumb question, but are the tires all the same size? What are you on when running 4WD? Hard surface or grass? If there is a mismatch in tire size, the difference will cause it to kind of drag a little when you come out of 4WD
