Rear end
Ok.. so the question is, what can I do to make my rear end Posi, Im looking for LSD.. as I dont want a locker, because if im right doesnt this always lock and put premature wear on your tires?... I just need this, as I swapped to V8, and dont wanna be stuck there spinnin one tire...
, so if anyone can guide me in the right direction where to buy this, what needs to be done.. and if it can work with any ratio.
Lockers unlock, that's the definition. A spool or welded diff does not unlock. Sure lockers can and do lock on the street and cause extra wear on the tires, I've personally never noticed any significant tire wear increase with a locker.
hmm, alright.. so , would a person like me be able to put one of these in? lol.. , if so , or if not. Where might I pick these up.. like for my exact year, 1995 dakota 4x4, cant guarentee but pretty sure 3.55 gears. and are they pricey?
A "lunchbox locker", like the Powertrax No-Slip and Lock-Right are much easier to install than an LSD since they only replace the spider gears and don't require adjusting the backlash. The No-slip goes for around $430, the Lock-right goes for a little under $400, the No-slip has some extra do-dads that make it smoother.

If you're truely set on not getting a locker, you could look for a factory limited slip rear axle and do a complete axle swap, or you could buy an LSD carrier and get it installed. If you've never done a carrier swap, you don't want to do this on your own cause it requires special tools and a very specific way of setting it up.
As for the locker thing, there are lockers that easily install in the open carrier in place of the spider gears. The Powertrax No-Slip locker is a popular one. They unlock when there is no torque transfer in the differential and you're turning and lock again when you get on the gas. From what I've heard, they take a bit of getting used to, especially making a sharp turn from a dead stop. Crazy4x4RT has one in his truck.
