Default Synthetic Oil Dakota Question?

Vehicle- 93 Dakota Sport 4x4 auto V6 174k miles.

Is it okay to add synthetic oil to a 93 dakota v6 engine? Some people tell me that it is ok and others say it isn't alright to add synthetic oil to an old Dakota. I also read Mobil-1 synthetic oil can help an engine gain some more HP.

This question has been on my mind for a while and I'm hoping you guys can speak the truth. My last 3 oil changes I used Castrol, NAPA, and most recently quaker state peak performance 5W-30.

To my knowledge MODERN synthetics are very flexible with conventional oil. Can be swapped back and forth, can be mixed with it. And will not harm the engine if not designed for it. The Old synthetics are the ones that cause all the problems. And some oils can FREE up HP. Royal purple is the most popular performance oil that has plenty of dyno's to prove it works.

I plan on doing the same, on my next change in conjunction with treating my fuel with some regane a few times to help with longevity.

I dunno much about different oil but I'll probably go with Ford motorcraft like I did with my tranny.

From my exprience honestly if your using conventional you CAN swap to a synthetic (i like mobil 1 great oil great history, and its viper material lol) however you canot swap back due to synthetic will soften your seals and gaskets and if you switch back you will end up with major oil leaks seen it happen just giving you a heads up. Also depending on where you live and temp. Lucas is a great additive helps get flow everywhere and if your losing oil normally it will stop it. PLUS its full synthetic so can be used with a synthetic. ok thats enough for today. Have fun.

PS NEVER NEVER NEVER USE QUAKER STATE!!! I have seen many people that used it and it almost always cakes up in the valey really bad just advice.

I live in the pocono Mtns and the weather changes a lot to cold, warm, rainy, snowy, and then dry. According to the experts synthetic oil gives a engine 4 to 8 HP back and if I can gain horsepower using synthetic then I'm all for using it.

Does anybody on this site use synthetic oil in their V6 engine?

Oh and I will take your advice about quaker state.....

I've been using Amsoil for the last 100k of the current 300k. power is respectible for the mileage and fuel economy has never been better!

I heard that if you switch from regular to synthetic you might have more problems with oil leakage because its thinner and easier to get past seals and parts
