i will have all three versions of the dakotas then lol. but my v8s got a chopped frame, my 4 cyl doesnt have an engine. so i figure ill get rid of the 4 cyl, get the one the guy offered me and right now im just goin with the 727 and drive the truck. thanks for all you help.
I would personally go that route!! The ax-15 will last a while if you don't race the truck every day! The most likely point at which the v8 would tear through the ax-15 is WOT at 3200 rpm, so if you avoid that, it should last a while. If you threw your engine in the v6 4x4 5 speed, you wouldn't be loosing anything except some time. It would be easier to swap the engine into the truck that is already a manual now and change transmissions to the nv3500 later than to swap in a manual into a truck that is currently an automatic.

And, since you won't have any money in the above project, you could always get the 727 as a backup just in case the ax-15 goes out before you can find an nv3500. Then you could sell the 727 when you find the nv3500 and decide you don't need it.

What do you mean by chopped frame?

It will bolt up to your 5.2, but you are going to have to buy a new, neutral balanced torque converter to put in the transmission. The torque converters that were in transmissions behind 360s back then were balanced for the engine.

I still say get the 5 speed v6 4x4! :P

i just got the v6 truck towed out here. im just going to put it aside for now and slowly work on it buildin the drive and runnin gear. i plan on ending up puttin a built up 360 in it. for now i am gettin the 727 and put it in my v8. quickest route i think considerin i dont have too much money, and i dont have all the means for the engine swap off hand. still very muddy around lol. and by the frame being chopped, is that when i got it i looked under it and it had about 3 inches missin out of the rear fram and a peice of 3/4 square stock tubin welded in place....very poorly...and with a bigger shock on oneside lol. Being what it is, i didnt pay very much for the truck. but the engine is a freshly and trusted rebuild.

Default torque converter

my stock torque converter wont bolt up??? out of the a518? just curious seein as how i already have it. and i planned on maybe getting a shift kit, tranny filter kit, and a cooler of some sort dependin on how much it is. i just got laid off and am on unemployment till the truss plant opens back up. so i dont have much to work with between this and rent. lol

Hmm, thats a good question. I don't know if it will bolt up or not. I guess you could compare the two and try. Let us know whether it does or not!
