Default Tranny question.

So i got a buddy that is finally willing to get rid of his transmission. its a 727 with a n9229 transfer case for 100 bucks. Ive seen lots of people on here using them, is it a just bolt up deal or do i have to modify anything? if so whats gotta be done? btw i am using my stock transfer case if itll work.

As long as the 727 is meant to go on a small block and you have a 3.9 or 5.2, yes, it will bolt up.

Just to let you know, the 46rh (a518) is a 727 with an electronic overdrive unit in its tail... turn off OD and you have a 727. So if you have the 5.2 with a 46rh behind it, you are downgrading your transmission by loosing the OD if you switch to that 727.

Umm im not sure yet i have to go look at it, waitin for him to get back but its raining its a** off now. But its melting the snow finally. but its not a big deal i kinda planned on just switching the transfer case thats already on my truck if its possible, which im guessin it is. but its good info that i can just switch it over ya know lol. like i said in some of my other posts, my tranny took a crap on me and i just really got to get it going. and so far thats the cheapest option i have. is there any kind of mods at all id have to do for the swap tho lol, i know i asked already i just want to be sure to get it all ready the first time. get it done quickly.

I'm not aware of any mods needed. I guess it all depends on what the mounts look like and the t case shifter assembly, etc.

You will get a check engine light for the lack of the overdrive unit and torque converter lockup, but it should run just fine.

Default another possible option

a guy just called me and has a good looking and drivin 1993 dakota with the v6 in it, but hes taking the engine out and offered me the truck, its 4x4 and has a stick tranny, so what are the odds that tranny will run for a while? im not sure what tranny it is, but the truck is free, compared to spendin money on the tranny.... would it be worth it to swap the engine???

it might be good, just chec kthe syncros and if you do go for it just fork out for a new clutch kit. i aplogize but i can't remember if you have a v6 or v8 engine. you have a v8 it wouldn't be worth it.

yea i have a v8, but i figured id still just get the truck and end up buyin a nv3500 and switch them the tranny in when i get it and do the engine swap.
i will have all three versions of the dakotas then lol. but my v8s got a chopped frame, my 4 cyl doesnt have an engine. so i figure ill get rid of the 4 cyl, get the one the guy offered me and right now im just goin with the 727 and drive the truck. thanks for all you help.
