The automatics are Dodge transmissions. The 5-speed manual transmission AX-15 that came on both V6 and 4cly is made by a different company called Aisin Warner.

The best place to find one for a cheep price is junkyard or www.ebay.com or www.craigslist.org

Also it is best if you post int he 1st Generation Dakota Sub-Forum. I will move it there.

Where's the leak coming from?

BTW, I had mine rebuilt after it self destructed 3 years ago and had all the upgrades done to it. There were weak links in the trans but newer parts are made a bit better then they were 17 years ago.

Like Crazy4x4rt said, dodge only makes the auto transmissions they use. You didn't specify if you have a 4 cyl, v6, or v8, but again like he said, the 4 cyl and v6 use the Aisin Warner AX-15. The v8 uses the nv3500 made by New Venture Gear. All of the big 3 american companies use New Venture Gear products, so you can't chalk it up to Dodge if it breaks!

*EDIT*

Lol, nevermind... I just rememebered there was no v8 5 speed combo in '93, so Crazy4x4rt is right, you have the AX-15.

hitting these @ 65 tends to put a damper on your plans for the day

Huh, I've never heard anybody call out one of these engines (3.9, 5.2, 5.9 family)!! I've always considered them to be bulletproof! I've had my truck over 2 years now and drive the **** out of it every time I go somewhere and it still starts without hesitation and doesn't leak, burn or use any oil!

You realize that with the detergents in modern oils, they turn black pretty quick? It doesn't mean the oil needs changing, it's just how the detergents react.
