I'm guessing your going to be doing a Tug O War kind of thing just going forward.
The best tip is to use your brakes at the beginning. When he starts to spin, where he loses traction. Then you hit the gas at a steady pace. Do not spin your tires.
You can of coarse put it in 4wd or even 4low.
Just as a warning there is always a chance of breakage due to these trucks not built for O Wars.

sounds like a bad plan... just sayin...
But yes, the minute he spins, all his traction will be over come. On the other hand, if you start to be drug, you lost already.
using chains? be sure to weigh them down at 2 places to prevent back-lash if they break or desconnect from the truck.

it'll prolly be really even, trucks weigh about the same and prolly have close to the same amount of power
it'll all come down to traction
u'll prolly win with ur tires, if he's got the stock 29's on the truck they will most likely be goodyear eagle ls tires and they are highwayers

I'll be here when you get back to help you through a transfer caes rebuild! :P
But in all seriousness, you will probably win if nothing breaks. Same engine, but you will be putting more power to the ground with your manual transmission (as long as you don't stall it). And with street tires, I don't see him being able to bite the dirt at all.

A good hint! Lower your air pressure in your tires. This will increase your footprint for increased traction. And if you have it low enough the less roundness of the tire will help you from slippage. If you don't have drive to far to get to the challenge spot go as low as 10-15psi. (Don't let anyone know you did it.)
Now that Josh Abels brought up weight. He will be heavier. According to Mopar Action Magazine the 2nd Gens are 100-200lbs heavier. That is both reg cabs long beds. And with him a 4 door that is extra weight. So that will give him a slight advantage.
