I know there are updated parts for it so I would make sure you get them.

just line the dots up on the old one before you remove it and then line the dots up on the new one.

Do not use the crank bolt to seat the balancer. Use lube in large amounts. Stop your engine at 0 degree's before starting. Buy all the gaskets and seals and fluids beforehand. Have a helper remove the old gear so you do not get dirty.

Its pretty easy, just be prepared to drain your radiator, have a gear puller available and take your time, line up the marks, I think the Serv manual says to line up TDC for #2, but you will see the two dots, they will line up. do not turn the engine when everything is torn apart!!!
good luck, its not bad at all.

Timing Chain Checking and replacing
symptoms:
Rattling or lifter type noise coming from the front (chain case) area of the engine.
diagnosis:
Start the engine and bring it to operating temperature. Increase and decrease engine RPM slightly while listening to the front end of the engine for a rattling or lifter type noise. A stethoscope can be used to help pin point the noise location. If the noise is found coming from the timing chain case, perform the Repair Procedure.

you say the truck won't run, is it because of the timing chain? if so, if it is broke or sliped a tooth then the install of the new one just got more involved.

it will run , but it backfires and when i put in gear and press the gas it dies, my father in law is a mechanic and the was here last week and checked it out.
the chain is streched and the timing is off thats why it wont run. the chain and gear set and the gasket set was $80 total.

$80? Where did you get it? Did the gaskets and seal come with the kit?
