Default Changing transfer case fluid.

Does anyone have a writeup on this? My 4x4 lever is really hard to move, and ive been told that fresh transfer case fluid could help with that.

How do you drain, and add fluid?
What kind of fluid?
And how much fluid?

Thanks.

Changing the fluid wont make it shift better. Have you looked under your truck? It's 2 big plugs, lower one is drain, top one is fill. ATF +4. 2 quarts is more than enough.

1. Why wouldn't it shift better with new fluid? Every time I've ever replaced my transmission fluid there is a big difference in shifting. I use $13 a quart red-line though. I would think new transfer case fluid can only help the situation.

2. NP-205 uses SAE SF 10-30 Engine oil.

NP231, and NP241HD use DExron III ATF.

Because a transfercase is competely different from a transmission

And it's ATF+4, not Dexron.

Obviously, but old, dirty fluid with metal pieces in it is not good for anything. Changing his old fluid can only help the situation.

My service manual states the NP231 takes Dexron III, but it's been wrong before.
