Default 94 dak hard shift on rebuilt trans

I have a '94 Dakota with a rebuilt 46rh in it about 3k ,yes 3K, miles ago The thing was beautifull till it started shifting really hard into drive. It does it when i first take off and if I slow way down or stop at a sign. It hauls large loads of firewood and goes like hell as long as I do not slow down. If I do slow it goes thump when drive engages which only happens when I give it a little on the skinny pedal, while moving or from a dead stop It just seems to not want to engage drive till i hit the pedal, and drops out if i let off the pedal too much.
Ideas anyone. Busted snap ring? Bad gov.?
Thanks all

Kinda sounds like my truck with bad u-joints. Maybe the rebuilt tranny was too much for them? Unless you replaced all that at the same time? Just a thought.

No it's not my joints. That would be way too easy. Thx tho If it were my joints I wouldn't have to hit the gas to make it pop into drive. I would just hear a nice metallic clunk. What does happen is I rev up a couple hundred rpms and then it slams into gear and takes off. I can juice it and it doesn't slip. Yesterday it seemed as if it didn't know which gear it should be in, it kept going from 2nd to 3rd and back to 2nd again for a bit.

Thx

there are a couple things that you can check:
1. Throttle cable-make sure it's properly adjusted

2. Fluid condition-with roughly 3,000 miles since the rebuild it should still be bright red.

I hope that when your transmission was rebuilt that they flushed the cooler and as an added protection installed in inline filter on the transmission cooler line. If the cooler wasn't flushed it'll cause big problems.

Sounds like a sticking solenoid issue. I would get it to a tranny shop have them drive it see what they say. I had same issue with a different make car, clunking and searching for gears, a full flush cleared it up but with yours just at 3K miles on it??? One thing the banging and clunking is not good on the planetary gear.

Welllll it worked good first thing this morning and had drive almost instantly, reverse too. Today when I get to my jobsite and dropped it in reverse it shuddered like mad and did not want to move, but did move. When I left tonight it had drive and reverse as normal. As it warmed up it decided it didn't wanna make the 2-3 shift. A quick shift to 2nd and back to drive made it shift to 3rd. When I got home and tranny was well warmed it barley wanted to back up my hill at all. I had to give 1/4 on the gas pedal to go backwards, something that I had no trouble doing this morning with a couple hundred pounds of stone on back. My fluid is nice and bright red, not burnt and I did flush the cooler and lines out.
Any other ideas anyone? MasterTech your input might prove usefull.
Thx to any and all that respond with good ideas or bad. I just need ideas.
