new water pump leak
just installed new water pump...started up truck after letting it sit overnight and it leaks like crazy..seems one of the long bolts (top right) is leaking, and it seems like it was also leaking near the bottom somewhere...i used red rtv sealant...is this coolant compatible??..also i did not use any sealant on the threads of long bolts..could this also cause a leak??..can anyone offer some advice??..im gonna tear it all down tomorrow and install new gasket and try this again so i would like to go into this with a little more confidence than i have right now...grrrr
Make sure its coming from the mounting surface first, if so, take it back apart, clean it with a razor blade scraping ALL the old material off till you have shiny silver surfaces. Then a thin "tack" coat of permatex ultra seal on both sides of the gasket, then re install and make the bolts tight. Never had a problem doing it that way. And if the bolts are tight, they shouldn't leak.
i'm thinking where it was leaking out of the bottom it may have been coming out of the weep hole..i have to crawl under it to make sure..if so i'm gonna take the pump back to autozone and get a replacement...i'll also use your suggestions and get some different gasket sealant and make sure i get the surfaces 100% prepped before re installing..thanks guys

you might also want to check your bypass hose. It's behind the A/C compressor bracket. To replace it, you'll have to remove the A/C compressor, & the alternator to remove the bracket.
When I replaced my water pump on my Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.2 V8, I had a leak coming from the heater hose tube. I ended up replacing the o-ring, because it was the wrong one from NAPA, sealed it up with black RTV and have had no leaks now for the past 5 months.

i removed the a/c, alternator, and the bracket that both of those mount too..there was some moisture around the thermostat housing, also a big pool where the bypass hose hooks in..i don't know if it was leaking down from the thermostat, or a little of both...so i bought a new thermostat gasket, new bypass hose, and while i was at it returned the water pump and got a new pump and pump gasket...i also got the permatex made especially for thermostats and water pumps...so i got all the surfaces prepped to shiny metal and ready for install tomorrow..i also noticed the heater tube didn't seemed to be sealing up real well so i'll throw some permatex on that too..i'll let you all know how it goes and again thanks for the help
