Default Need some friendly help...

O.k. everyone...I'll intro myself first then to my "issue"

Name: Greg
Truck: 1995 Dakota
Color: Black with spots of gray primer
Engine: "Magnum" V-8 hehehehehe ::whisper:: V-8 360CID 5.9L with a mild cam
Trans: 5-speed manual
Rear end: out of a 1973 Challenger with posi and 3:91 gears

She's my little playful beast. Lowered 1/2 inch with a cal-trak in the rear to keep her planted (ish). She has brushed 5 spoke cobra rims, with extra long rear studs so she is ready for wider slicks on the track. Her only other apperance change is a small cowl hood. She looks like a little black truck that someone put rims and a hood on, then some exhaust, and never tuned it. But she'll run in the 13s full weight. ;-)

So...my "issue"

I press in the clutch and she fires right up...but sometimes, and I do mean random some times, I push in the clutch and turn the key and click...nothing. Now, if I keep the key turned to the ignition position and release the clutch and depress it again it will re-engage and fire the truck. Some times I have to pump the clutch a few times like this to get it to fire but it's always fired.

So, I'm thinking that it's the Clutch Safety Switch or the "clutch interlock switch" as I have heard t called before.

Any ideas on where this is located? Or any ideas on if this could be the problem?

Remember it's a 5-speed manual trans. ;-)

Thanks everyone!!!!

-Greg

Welcome to DF
You can by-pass the safety switch for the clutch.

Welcome, don't know where your safety switch sits, but when you find it, get it the heck out of there. Have you any idea how many horses the 5.9 is pushing? Seems like it goes down the track pretty good.

Ya sure sounds like the safety switch. The service manual calls it a CLUTCH PEDAL POSITION SWITCH. It should be somewhere on the clutch pedal.

Ya post up pics!

Well the 5.9 that is in it isn't exactly stock. LOL I'm not sure what the HP output is right now. She's in bad need of a good tune up. I just had her driven in from Seattle WA down here to San Antonio TX. I need to get a few seals and gaskets replaced, plugs, wires, belt, ect. Just need to find the time and money. She runs real well right now, but needs some TLC to run just that much better.

I think I have found the clutch switch, and I think I have found the way to by-pass it. So far the problem hasn't re-appeared this weekend. It's been interesting to say the least. LOL

Thanks for the warm welcome!!!

Try your local Dodge dealer parts department for a new one, but I'm sure Used is going to be your only choice. Try your local junkyard or www.craigslist.org

Also don't be scared to start a new thread.
