Old Guy Backed Into Me
This old geezer backed into me in a parking lot, caused quite a bit of damage. The insurance appraiser looked at it today and told me to brace for it to be totaled since it’s so old (88') but there’s only 71k on it. I want to keep it, drop on a new bed and a new door (all out of the junkyard). I will have to see how much they give me, that chrome wheel well trim is something I cannot find online anywhere.
I should be able to put a bed on this off a 92-96' with no problems right?

Son of a bitch, is the trim swappable? I like the chrome...
I took autobody for a while. All of that should be easily fixable!!
I would never change the box just for that.
Stick your hand behind it from under neath and you should be able to smack out that dent that the flash is on. The body line would be a bit harder but if you use some bondo after most of the dents are back, then you can use masking tape to keep the line. The door would be super easy too
That sucks man. They just passed here that any car 15 years or older is automatically irreparable.

I just don't want to get stuck with a salvage title!
I was thinking about trying some suction cups, but the thought of Bondo creeps me out. Dosent that crap just pop off at some point or if applied correctly does it actually bond to the metal?

Bondo's REAL use is for final straightening in body work. Once all the panels are straight before you lay down paint you apply a thin (<1/16") coat of bondo and block the car out to make it perfectly straight. In that use, its fine. The bed dent dent doesn't look impossible to fix. Just a little tedious but with patience you can do it almost entirely with metal. Also to be honest I don't see the dent in the door?
