Default 95 318 Dakota

I bought a 95 dodge Dakota 318 2wd 5speed, the motor was replaced before I bought it and the previous owner didn't have a ground tight enough and the wiring harness that plugs into the PCM started smoking and melted its self together. I'm have a tought time finding a computer and harness for this truck thinking about just throwing a carb on it and calling it a day, but my buddy said I can throw a auto 2wd 318 PCM on and I just won't have a rev limiter is this true? I just need some helpful advice. thanks

An auto PCM will run it. There is no difference between 2wd and 4wds. You will get codes for missing tranny stuff, but no CEL. Also the shift light will no longer work, it will stay lit above 43MPH when on the gas, as the output for the shift light on a manual PCM is the output for the torque convertor lockup on a auto PCM.

No rev limit sound like BS to me, although my auto PCM is a Mopar PCM so the rev limit has been considerably raised or removed to begin with.

When I converted my 96 auto to manual I kept the auto pcm in and it works just fine. Not sure about the rev limiter, never been that high in the rpms. No CEL but if you scan it there is about 6 transmission codes.

How much for the PCM? What kind of parts do you have?

big boy where are you located and why are you parting? I may have a few wants myself as I have both a 93 and a 94.

and related to OP I just converted the 93 to a stick and I got the stick computer with the motor and tranny... (I stayed with my orig 318, sold the one that came with the trans) so I havent had a chance to see if the 93s original A/T computer would work.

I do know that my cruise works after the swap over.... I didnt know if it worked before as I never drove that truck with the A/T since I bought the truck with a dead tranny and towed it home with the intent of swapping a stick into it from the getgo.
