Default Not my area of knowledge- Camshaft.

For my 5.9 build I have it sitting on a stand till I get it built up the way i want it, and one of the few things I want to do is a Cam. Not my area of knowledge at all so need some advice/opinions from those that know it. Wanting a cam for around idle-5500 or so. Found one so far thats been recommended on another dak forum from comp, thoughts?

However this one says it requires computer modding, not sure if thats a "You have to use the MP PCM" or if its just a flash of a stock unit.

Don't hesitate to correct me or point me in the right direction or even what you would do for a "Slightly above stock setup". Need all the opinions I can get here

You have an OBDI truck so your tuning options are pretty limited. No custom tuning that I am aware of so you need to go with a Mopar Performance PCM. I ran the above cam on an OBD1 truck with a 408 and it never ran as well as I liked with only a Mopar PCM. I'd recommend this one instead. More conservative but your truck will run better.

Alright thanks for the thoughts and advice, would you guys say the one I linked is a bit towards the aggressive side? Not wanting to get too crazy with it since it is going to be my D.D.

That's awesome, I didn't think anyone was doing OBDI work.

I to am going to do the 5.9 swap. Now I have the 5.2 with the MP PCM. What cam would be best to use without having to run a stall converter? The truck will be driven in evenings and weekends and im not really worried about gas mileage. Also whats going to be the best option on PCM? Can I use the 5.2 MP PCM, 5.9 MP PCM, factory 5.2 or 5.9 PCM, or have the 5.2 MP PCM that I have flashed for the 5.9? How much does it roughly cost to have the PCM flashed and reprogrammed? I will be installing all the performance parts that are on my 5.2 to the 5.9. Sorry to jack the thread but im thinking the answers to my questions will also help out the OP.

You can run a 5.2 Mopar PCM with a 5.9. Not your best setup, but fine to make sure your build and install go well. I'd run a factory 5.9 PCM from a 93 to 95 Ram on your truck or a Mopar PCM for the same years. The cam I suggest above would work fine with a stock converter. No issues there and you wouldn't need a custom program although there's certainly more gains to be had if you do.

Well I guess that settles me in then. I'll run the cam you suggested as there isn't a whole lot else I would have to do, probably need lifter and rods as well since the motor has around 80k or so on it.
