Welcome to DF

I will move your post to the 1st gen Dakota section. They would need to know what type of starting problem you are having.

Welcome to the dodge forum family. It will be easier for members to assist you if you can include some more Information.

Is it hard to start when cold or hot?

Have you checked for spark and fuel pressure? You can rent out tools from an auto part store if you or any friends dont own one.

Run you flash codes to see if it can tell you what's going wrong. We have a list in the faq section that tells you what the codes mean it's not a bad idea to print it out and throw a copy in your glove box for future reference. You can check the flash codes by cycling you key to on ( not cranking it over) 3 times in 5 seconds. Have a pad and pen to write down what it tells you.

Good luck. Once you get the bugs out these are some fun reliable little trucks.

As far as I know you can clear your pcm by disconnecting the battery for 10 mins or so. Pre 96 vehicles are obd1 and do not require a scanner or what ever to clear it. But look for those flash codes before you do that to keep note of what you might need.

holy smokes, the guy I purchased the truck from told me he had just put a new timing chain, I broke it down and it had a broken tensioner, wore down large gear, most likely that is the problem lol
