Default Setting valve lash 3.9

3.9L club cab auto 2WD

To make a long story short, I'm putting on some recently remanufactured Cylinder heads.

I'm getting ready to set valve lash and I've never encountered rocker arms like these. The intake and exhaust rocker arm on each cylinder share a metal clip (?) And each rocker arm has a 5/16 bolt.

In the past I've only seen it with a stud and either a top lock nut or a non-locking nut with a set screw.

My question is for setting valve lash, is the bolt essentially the same as the stud and nut combo?

What year is your truck?

The older LA motors used a shaft, the newer Magnum ones are rocker and stud.

The manuals I have show no lash adjustment.

Firstly, thank you for your reply. I truly do appreciate it.

It's a 1995, I meant to put that in... It's the second to last year of the first generation. IMO very well built vehicle.

There is no shaft just what I mentioned above, rocker arm per valve, metal piece per cylinder, and a bolt per rocker arm.

That'd be great if there is no adjustment, this is my first time with a Chrysler build.

On the 87-91 you just torque it down to 200 in lbs. I think the newer ones are torqued as well. You should be able to find it in any assembly manual specific to the magnum motor.
I too, am more familiar with the chevy style where you find zero lash and then tighten 1/4 to 1.5 turns more, (depending on motor etc.) Personally I like that style better, but its not a choice we have.

Edit to add, on another site I found information stating to torque to 21 ft. lbs.

And you're right, a 1995 would be Magnum based, no shaft, but the MacPherson designed stud/n/rocker that Cadillac said "That'll never work, get thee hence!" so Chevy grabbed him and used that in the design of their new V8 back in the early 50's ... and, as they say, "The rest is history."

Default Valve lash

There is no lash adjustment on the 3.9 dodge you just torque by the manual for that year engine just like you torque the head bolts. I do always replace all my rocker arm nuts any time I take them off its not necessary but its good practice I use new fastioner on ANY TORQUED NUT or BOLT. excuse the crappy spelling....
