Default Shifter options

As a few of you know I am swapping from an ax15 to an nv3500 and I am going to need to get a shifter for the transmission coming in which should be here tomorrow. My question is that I looked on eBay for shifters bc they are cheaper and I didn't see any stock ones that said they were for a Dakota and only one or two that were for a ram. I saw Hurst ones for a Dakota but I don't wanna pay that right now. I saw lots of them for nv3500 in gm truck tho? Will the gm ones or one of the ram ones work fine and still clear everything in the cab??

I don't know about the aftermarket options but have you thought of welding up your own? A friend did his Fummins swap with an NV4500 and he welded his shifter with a long socket extension that he bent to his preference. It actually looks surprisingly good, but it wouldn't be hard to make something more OEM looking.

Well I don't actually even have the tower that's held to the top of the transmission by the 4 screws

Check with ragged 89 but I think you can transfer the shifter and tower from your orig. transmission to the nv3500

not sure, but if I remember correctly, he transferred his shifter from the even earlier NV2500 (89 model) to his NV3500

Unfortunately I can't tell you if the AX-15 and NV3500 towers will swap, but I seriously doubt it.

I can tell you that the Ram version of the NV3500 uses a completely different shift tower that requires a special tool when removing the shifter from the trans. The Dakota version requires no such tool, and the shifter (lever) itself just threads onto the male threads of the linkage mechanism.

That's correct, the shift lever/shaft from the original NV2500 in my '89 was threaded and fit unto the NV3500 tower perfectly. The AX-15 came from another manufacturer (Peugot?) though, so probably no parts compatibility.

Okay so I probably need to find one specifically for a Dakota for it to work right. And sadly my tranny isn't going to get here until Monday I just found out so little bummed over that

I have a NV3500 setting in my garage. Here is a picture of it. Oh and its out of a 04 dakota with a 4.7 engine

If any additional pictures would help, let me know. BTW the shifter is on backwards.
