Default Headlights

Is there a real glass option for the replacement of the 94 Dakota composite headlights?
What is the brightest bulb for them?

You could convert to the 4666 used in the earlier Gen1's; those were the 1991 headlights, and were available (listed as "standard" or "base" like the 4 banger was) through 1995 according to my notes.

That's ... not an improvement, however.

A non-clouded non-yellowed set of Aero lights won't be too bad; and with those, you might be able to use something like the Hella HLA-H83155131 ( say at https://www.amazon.com/HELLA-HLA-H83.../dp/B000COBLNE ); but before you do that, I'd add a relay harness to help make sure there's plenty of voltage and current available.

Thanks Ralph. I am hoping for a direct plug in, I'd rather avoid messing with the wiring.

I suppose the other choice is to find a clear coating that will protect the new composite light from UV damage.

The "Aero" lights are the non-4666 lights; so if yours are plastic, they're Aero.

The Hella I linked to is a drop in replacement for a 9004, which is what you have.

A relay harness SHOULD just plug into the current wiring - a good one will! It'll have a plug that "looks" like a 9004 base, and a pair of 9004 recepticles to plug onto the 9004 or after market bulbs.

There are UV - proof spray coatings; you can try those also.

I'm a bit confused. The search function on CarId says I get a 4x6 light for my 94 Dak. WHen I measure it since that sounded small to me it measures 4.5x8.5. See pics
What is it I am missing or do not know here?

Second question.
On their Hella light assembly they want $66.95 for one then add $94+ for $161.56 before shipping if you buy a pair! You can choose to get 2 at $66.95 and with shipping coming in at $150ish.
So if these are right, do I need a left and right or are they the same?

The 4x6 is what you have if you DON'T have the Aero plastic lamps (i.e., the glass lamps).

Yours aren't glass, so they're not the 4x6 lights.

(I have the 4x6 lights; so do all the pre-1992 1st gens. It's pretty obvious when you see them.)

Which Hella light assembly are you looking at? I've got some Hellas in my truck, and that's about what I paid for them back then (here's a current Ebay listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hella-003177862-164x103mm-Halogen-Conversion-Headlamp-Kit-Rectangle-Clear-Lens-/400921110475?hash=item5d58c2a7cb )

I haven't seen any Hellas that will swap for the factory Aero headlights.

(BTW - For anyone following, no, for those Hella lamps they're universal. For the lights onemoredak94 has, they do list a left and a right.)

I ended up choosing these. I finally caught on and used "aero" in my search term and the right lights came up. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1991-1996-Do...WhLkD&vxp=mtr# Get the whole deal new. I hope its all its meant to be. The price is right.

I got a set of those about a month ago. You have to reuse the backing piece, the headlight, marker light, and reflector attach to that with the stock fasteners.

the fit, finish, and quality are great.

Did you use wax or something to get UV protection? Go Cougs!
