Help! 92 dakota v6 3.9l died and wont start
I recently purchased a 92 Dodge Dakota and overall I'm in love with this truck. Since I've gotten it I put new spark plugs wires distributor cap and rotor on it along with a new transmission pan which was leaking and a fresh oil change.
When I did the tune up I accidentally left the coil wire dangling and it melted and sparked and killed my truck. So I fix that and I drove to HyVee in a storm yesterday and it died in the parking lot and would not start back up. Did a self diagnostic and got a Code 11. So I replace the crank sensor and no luck. Then I thought it might be the coil so I replaced it. No luck. Then I thought I might be my distributor cap so I cleaned it. No luck. Also a strange clicking noise while the truck is turning over. And no the battery is not dead LOL. What in the heck could it be I don't want to replace a thousand things when it's something simple and I know it is something simple because that's how it always is. Please help sooner rather than later it's my only form of transportation for me my wife and four kids
"strange clicking sound"
I'd get someone else to crank it while you're looking under the hood at night, ideally with the underhood light disabled.
I bet you're hearing a high voltage discharge, and something's cracked or broken on the high voltage side.

Well i did not know that... Where could i start looking to find where i am and am not getting spark? What is the diagnostic code 11 and the solution? Is it possibke it just got too wet under the hood and needs to dry out?
Which is why you look for if there's any spark off the coil, or off the distributor.
If not, you probably need to hunt down the clicking.
If the starter is clicking, and it's NOT cranking over, then it's time to charge the battery first and see what happens after it's fully charged.
If it's fully charged, and the starter is clicking and not spinning, then you probably need to check all the connections; both the battery end, and the other end, of both cables.
If it's spinning over, those are probably good; again, time to find out where it's clicking or snapping from.
Again, I'd almost bet you'll find it's arcing from the coil or down the coil/distributor wire. Especially since the coil's on the motor.

Also it starts every few hours but only runs for a few minutes then dies and wont start. Before these issues it ran like a champ but now dont run at all. No cover on fuse panel while raining might have something to do with it?

The clicking is coming near/ not far from the distributor so i took it apart and wiped everything down. Has a brand new distributor cap on there and the inside terminals already have a white residue on them... I dont know if that means anything but if it is something inside the distributor what would it be? Also looked up what code 11 is and supposedly its the crank sensor but i changed that already
