Default Best oil filter 88 Dakota 3.9 V6

What is the best oil filter for my 88 Dakota 3.9 V6. I have used NAPA Gold(which is made by Wix filters), & I was looking to see what you Dodge owners used.

That's like asking what brand oil is the best. Everyone will have their own opinion. I use fram. Always have. Never had an issue. Others won't touch a fram with a 10' pole.

Cool

I use the standard Purolator filter on all my rides (including my '95 Dakota 3.9 V6). The Purolators are readily available and dirt cheap. Their internal structure however, is very well built. I gleaned my info from the oil filter study this guy did a few years back. He cut open every filter on the market with a lathe and examined all the inner workings.

Oil filter study

BTW, I'm one of those guys who wouldn't touch a FRAM filter with a 10' pole!

Usually, I get my filters at walmart. That being said, I have used the cheap frams, and the mopar filters as well. For my wifes honda, I try to order the honda filter. Price is about 4.50 online. For my corvette, which I have more money in the motor then I care to talk about, I try to get the mobil filters.

What I believe is more important, is regular oil and filter changes rather then brand.

I remember the reports of fram being junk, but for myself, I have never had a failure that was related to the filter.

Again, change filter and oil on a regular basis. That is what is important.

I like how the FRAM filters have the grip coating, but I have never heard nothing good about them. I have always heard good things about Purolator filters. Who sells Purolator filters?

I think the Wix filters are good, they produced filters in the Ea line for AMSOIL. I have mixed feelings about Fram; I bought them for years, and occaisionally still do. But a few years ago I found loose slivers of metal on the threads of two brand new Fram filters. I reconsided after that, and started using Wix, Mobile1, or Mopar filters. It was probably a quality control thing, and maybe they've "cleaned up" their act, but it left me with doubts about Fram.

I just got an 89 .. and I bought the NAPA Gold 1085. Its about the max size that fits. There's a lot of people on bobistheoilguy.com that swear by Napa Gold filters.. (they are REALLY into lubricants on that site). Don't go crazy expensive if you're going to change it every 3000...
