Default Transmission passing gear, abs brake light

Okay guys now that I have drove the truck more now these are the two things I noticed wrong. First of all when you are cruising down the highway going maybe 45 mph or any speed for that matter and you flat foot the throttle this thing really does not get up and go. It's running smooth as silk it's just allot as if transmission is not kicking down quite like it should under hard acceleration such as passing gear. No slippage just doesn't seem to kick down hard. Other thing when I got the truck this part was fine but before I changed the computer, the abs light came on one day and stayed on and at the same time the brake lights don't come on now, they did before. No blowed fuses either. Shoot me thoughts you guys have the transmission is a A518/46rh.

This should help with the kick down. I'd look into making sure the TV cable is set properly at the trans first. http://www.bionicdodge.com/Download/...Adjustment.pdf

If it's a 1996, should be a 46RE (or even a 44RE or 42RE); they went electronic for 1996.

If it is a RE, then that's done by the ECU, based on the TPS reading.

If, however, it's a RH and a 1995 or earlier, then it's via the TV cable or linkage, and that needs to be adjusted properly.

If it's a 1996, that factory service manual is available through the FAQ here; I'd download it and start studying the troubleshooting chart there.

As to the ABS and brake lights - again, I'd start with the troubleshooting charts in the FSM.

The RE transmissions still have the TV cable. Does it not play a role in downshifting when you step on the gas??

The truck is a 94 with a 318. It has a 46rh and when cruising highway and you step on it hard. It only makes one downshift which doesn't really get the truck moving very quickly. I had a friend that used to have the same model and when he would flat foot his the rpms would shoot way up and it would rocket on down the highway.

You're absolutely right; I was thinking AOD to AODE/4R70W at that point.

My bad.

I would take a long hard look at the TV cable then. Make sure it is hooked up on both ends, and there is NO slack in the cable. Also make sure it moves freely. (aside from the expected resistance from the spring down on the trans......)

No worries.

Okay guys tv cable had alot of slack and I adjusted it out and now the transmission actually kicks down good and gets it moving. I wish it had little bit more torque may convert it to a 3.90 gears later. Now I gotta address the brake lights.
