I just replaced the backup light switch on my manual 1994 Dodge Dakota and still no luck with reverse lights. I tried two new switches so I think I ruled out a faulty switch.
Before replacing, I bypassed the switch and confirmed that the bulbs are good and getting plenty of power. Fuse is obviously good too.
Is there any other reason my reverse lights wouldn't be working?
OK this may be a long shot but, are you sure you have the right switch?
Let me explain what I am getting at.
I have a 87 that came with a NV2500 transmission. I replaced that with a NV3500 (which should be the one in your truck as well)
Below is a picture of the 2 switches. The short one is for the 87 NV2500 and the longer one is for the NV3500 out of a 2003
If you have the short switch, I would take it out, and stick a straw back in to see how deep the detent is.
Im thinking its possible you have the wrong switch.

if you jumpered at the switch then it's most likely the switch plunger isn't getting pushed by the detent...I'd check what 93 is suggesting.

A V8 truck should have a NV3500 transmission.
Again, if someone put the wrong switch in there, you can see why it would not work.
Hope this helps
Thanks for the response. I definitely have the longer switch. I even got one from Autozone and one from O'Reily's to make sure it wasnt a brand defect. Seems like it might be something internal in the transmission...
