Default engine miss 2000-3000 rpm

engine won't rev past 2k-3k. gas gauge doesn't work (low fuel light works). When I add fuel additive, revs higher for a while. same RPM limit in any gear. runs up to 80 mph, just can't get there very fast.

rotor/cap/wires look good, pump has been replaced before. 1994 5.2 2-wheel drive

my thoughts: fuel pump or collapsed fuel line (I'm in S. California, lots of ethanol).

Any help is appreciated!

1994 - it should still have the frame rail mounted fuel filter; has it been replaced recently?

What kind of shape is the cat(s) on it?

Ralph, the 94 5.2 has an in-tank filter. Id look at eh cats too. I would think a fuel line collapse would cause lean condition and detonation.

Yes it does.

And you're right, I was thinking 1992/1993 which still had the frame mounted filter. Also.

I looked at first post, didn't explain correctly (it was late).

Truck starts missing or acting like it's hitting a rev-limiter, When adding fuel treatment, revs a little higher for a while.

Truck just passed annual smog check and when I bang on cat, it doesn't make noise. I've replaced the cat two times before, and it was really noisy.

Failing crank or cam sensor. Maybe low fuel pressure?

Thanks for the reply. Already planning a fuel pump replacement (gauge doesn't work). Is there a way to test the crank or cam sensor?

Thanks.
