Hey Ralph, I did not realize you had a 120 amp on your truck. Do you, by chance remember what was on there before? ie : 78 or 90?

I just looked up on Rock Auto, my 95 only shows 78, 90, and 120. Not too many choices, I guess since I have a 3.9.

But I looked up a random 99 Dakota with 5.2, what I'm thinking about swapping to, and it has the same choices as the 5.9: 117 and 136. I think later on had more options, 140 if I remember seeing. But nothing was said about the pulleys, 6 or 7 ribs.

Besides the pulley style, I think the 2 potential problems are going to be, 1. offset, will the pulley align with the others? 2. Will the new, bigger alternator fit the bracket? You may run into that when going from 120 to 140, but who knows.

Just to let everyone know, I ordered one through advance auto parts. 95.99 less 25% discount. Free shipping, lifetime warranty. This is exchange price, but I can turn my core in at the local store. I'll let you know if it fits!!

OK, My new 120 amp alternator came in. Bad news is, its not going to fit. The mount and adjustment holes are at different widths, also, the alternator is too thick, it hits the valve cover.
Below is a picture...
Does anyone know of a upgrade kit to convert the 78 amp alternator to a higher amp?
Another thought I had was the possibility of a smaller pulley, to speed the alternator up....
I "think" Tuff Stuff makes a alternator that upgrades to 130 amp, but that thing is around $250.00
Just trying to find a cheap solution to a higher amp output at idle. as I hope this is somewhat temporary since I plan to put a newer V8 in the truck.
Thanks to everyone for their help.

5.2 RAM Bracket

(That's from another Dodge web site).

That's what my bracket looks like.

Maybe my truck originally came with the 120A alternator? It shows up for the 50/120 in the parts list.

But that's how the 120 fits.

Hey Ralph,
Thanks for posting the picture.
I am starting to re-think this....
Im kinda leaning toward returning the 120 amp alternator and just leaving it with the 78 amp for now.
Hopefully the 5.9 magnum I purchase will have a larger alternator.....
My fear is, even if I found a bracket like posted above, will it work with my other mounts?
As the old saying goes,
"when your in a hole, put down the shovel"
