Yeah, Amazon is where I ended up getting it. Sub $31. I've always avoided house brands when it comes to motor oil and tranny fluid. I mean, they're probably rebranded from the reputable producers but for whatever reason I don't want to take my chances and stick with the reputable brands. Oils, fluids, lubricants are too important to risk.
Well, the $9.99 Pittsburgh torque wrench showed up and it doesn't work. Can't say I'm surprised for $9.99. It does not click. Like it's stuck on infinity. Just snaps bolts regardless of what setting it's at. I pulled the head cover off to be sure the springs and pawls were where they belong. Looks fine. Has to be in the handle. There is nothing smooth about this wrench at all. Total garbage but I was hoping to get at least a little use out of it. Gonna exchange it and see if they can get it right.
I got a good one from HF. IDR if I paid $39 or $59 but its been a life saver when the need came up.
Did you get that metal valve to put under the new spring?
So I went to my local Harbor Freight store. They said I could do a straight up exchange for my 1/4" torque wrench. Went over to their stack of wrenches with my 5/16" nut and bolt. Tried 9 of them (including one 3/8" drive). None of them worked. Not a one. Started walking out and thought, no. I'm not walking out until I get to the bottom of this. I'm 30+ squares past my prime but I'm not ready to submit to Alzheimers. I chased down the store manager (nice guy) and I asked him if he knew anything about torque wrenches. He said he uses them all the time. I said, good. Told him I was doing an exchange blah blah blah and if he could find me a good one. He tried three and none of them worked for him either. He told me there is no recall and he's befuddled. His son just bought one two weeks ago and said it works perfectly fine. I could see he was questioning his sanity too. So we pulled out an Icon torque wrench (their top of the line). That one worked beautifully. No problems. So we haven't lost our minds. Odd that both the store wrenches and the one shipped to me from an online purchase are all bad.

Metal valve to put under new spring? Not sure what that is.
Post #13 it is an accumulator piston not valve. The OE one is plastic. I thought you were going to replace the accumulator spring.
Oh, no. I just got the spring. I watched a number of videos from transmission joints and while they suggested replacing the spring, none of them suggested to replace the piston. And while they were changing out the spring I saw the piston would fall out on its own. If it were $10 or something I might do it but those metal ones are like $40 or $50. Hope I don't come to regret it but there are lots of things for $40 or $50 I'd like to replace but a trillion here and a trillion there and pretty soon you're talking real money.
Finished tranny job yesterday. The adjusting screw head on both bands was a square head and I had no socket that would work on the front band so I could not torque it. Had to guess using a 11/32 open end wrench in a tight fit. I was able to use a 9mm socket on the rear band if I tilted the socket. Kinda cheesy and not sure how well it torqued. Sadly, the field service instructions that Ralph kindly provided me did not say they were square heads. They said a 5/16 socket would work on the front and made no indication of the tool needed for the rear band but I assumed they wanted you to use the same 5/16" socket. A 5/16" socket did not work. Anyway, I did the best I could with what I had and the tranny seems to function fine. I also replaced the 3-4 accumulator spring. The piston above was not plastic. Looked like some kind of lightweight cast metal. Not sure. The old spring appeared fine but cannot ascertain fatigue. Replaced 5 liters of fluid. The pan and magnet had very little sludge or metal bits. Very clean. Even the fluid was still nice and pink. It would seem my tranny is in good shape. I've been good over the years to change the fluid and filter. Amazing how durable things are when properly maintained, huh?
So now where to get a socket for square head bolts?? Oh, and that front band is buried pretty good. Luckily I had one of those goofy 3/4" wrenches (see pix) to loosen the locking nut. That did the trick. Was my father's wrench from a zillion years ago that I never used until now. Maybe he bought it to adjust his bands.
