Default Transmission Band Adjusment

1993 Dodge Dakota, LE, 5.2L, 176,000 miles, original owner

I have a 46RH (A518) transmission. I need to change the oil and filter in it and while I'm at it I'm going to adjust the front and back bands which have never been adjusted. I watch these YouTube vids and get different specs and I'm wondering what to believe. Pretty universal to tighten to 72 inch pounds on the front band adjustment then back off how many turns?? I see 2-1/2 turns so far. The Lo/Rev band is also tightened to 72 inch pounds but I see as little as 2 and as many as 3 reverse turns. Which is it??

Thanks in advance.

From what I have read, 2 turns for each is generally pretty good. However, another member on here (that is also a trans mechanic.....) suggests a quarter, to half-inch clearance between the piston, and the lever.......

Well, checking pages 21-76 and 21-77 in the factory service manual (attached), we find no need to guess.

Awesome! Guessing sucks! Thank you, Sir.

Where is this 1993 Service Manual? I did not see it. I have the 1995 cuz that's the closest I could find.

One other thing. I saw in one of these You Tube vids that it doesn't hurt to change out the 3-4 accumulator spring. Maybe the guy was trying to sell parts, who knows. But I think I can get that spring for less than $10. See any problems with this?

Bought my copy from Bishko Books for right under $40.

OTOH, the 1995 also says 2 turns for a 46RH; no change there.

That spring likes to break, so, replacement isn't a bad idea.

While this is up I remember reading something a long time ago about an OE part (a cylinder about 2 inches long less than an inch in diameter) they made from plastic with O rings on it that doesn't seal as well as it could that has a metal after market replacement. Does anyone recognize what I am referring too? It is supposed to be a part right there when you change the filter.
