Default air cleaner question on V6

Were there e different air cleaners on Dodge V6 Dakota's, 92-96 models. I have the round one but I was told they put flat ones with a 3" tube going to the air cleaner on some models. Can anyone verify this? Thanks.

The parts list shows the round one 94-96.

I think those saying that are confusing the 97+ 2nd Gen with the 1st Gen Dakotas.

Would a 97 model air cleaner fit a 94?

I guess you could make it work, but unless your original is missing and you have a '97 or later, why bother? I just use the factory type. The oiled ones don't work any better unless you're towing and running WOT. I've also seen the oil mess MAF sensors up.

Default Part needed

I ordered a cold air intake that was supposed to work but it is apparently made for a different model as it has a round hose that apparently attaches to the housing that fits on the carb. The company would sell me the part for an additional $30.00 and they will not take their parts back without me paying shipping. So I will look in a junkyard for a part I can make work.

Where are you located? If you're up north, I'd save the stock parts for winter use. Fuel injection isn't as bad as carburetors were about cold air icing, but they can ice up.

Don't have to worry about anything icing up here in south Texas. Just looking for the part that will make the crap I bought work.

Just a note -

Follow that hose down to the core support.

SURPRISE!!!

What you have IS a cold air intake; most CAIs are hot air intakes not COLD.

I'd leave it alone, just keep a good clean filter on it.

(WHY are you wanting to change? Have you actually looked at the science behind the intake you have?)

Default Advice

Sounds like good advice. I will try to get my money back. In the old days, you could increase hp by improving air intake and improving exhaust with headers and low restriction exhausts. I doubt if either of these methods will work on an old V6 Dodge. Comments are welcomed.

As said, the stock system IS a cold air intake, so, nothing to be gained by replacing it. Better flowing exhaust though? Yeah, that'll help. No idea what's available for the six though.
