Default Engine swap on 92 Dakota 3.9 5 speed to v8

I’m wanting to swap the v6 for a v8 but I’d like to keep the manual trans any advice and info would help. Which v8 you outdid be best 318 or 360 and would either be as close to plug and play as poss

Obdi, so, need to modify the wiring harness for the two additional injectors, and get the correct PCM. As for engine/trans choice...... if you are doing the swap, might just as well go big. Trouble being, not sure how long your trans would last behind a 360..... even the 318 is pushing it....

I agree with Hey You......... The difference in cost of a 5.2 vs 5.9 is marginal. And you will have much better low end torque.
I believe you have the AX15 transmission. I "think" you would be ok if not ******* it, at least for awhile. But I would keep my eye out for a NV3500 to replace it.

If you can find a 360, you might as well do like Benjamin Franklin said. "Fart Proudly". In other words, if you're going to do it, do it right and be proud of it. Be sure to get a 360 flywheel though. The 318 and 360 are balanced differently. The 319 may use the same flywheel as the 3.9.

That truck sure looks purposeful. I'll bet those front tires are fun on rough roads. Looks good though. A slight lift might be in order with the heavier engine.
