On a whim I checked my codes yesterday. I have a 62 emissions record something in the PCM. I haven't checked in a while but last week I changed oil and put in new plugs wires cap and rotor. I have no idea why the system would kick that up and unmotivated today to hook up the MT2500 to find out if it has any more info. Oh yea the oil pressure indicator arm on the dash would go down when I came to a stop. I do not recall that being a thing. This oil sensor is about 5 yrs old.

 

Oil pressure getting lower with lower engine RPM is normal. So long as it stays are a reasonable value.

 

I just erased the code. Scrolling down the code window the scanner said I have rich exhaust. I knew it anyway every time I start I can smell it.
Any ideas aside from tune up?

If you are running rich, I would look first that the O2 sensor. But, if you are rich at startup..... Check fuel pressure, see how fast it bleeds off when you turn the key off. Might have a leaking injector, or some such. Of course, if your plugs/cap/rotor/wires are old..... you can get misfires/incomplete combustion, and you end up with the same smell.

 

I connected the pressure tester turned the key to on, 32lbs. I did not start it. After 5 minutes it was down to 30lbs. 15 minutes after that it was 28lbs. I'm going to leave it for another half hour and see what it drops too. I think your idea is correct, my newish, a few years I think, rebuilt injectors are leaking down.

 

Some pressure bleed off isn't unexpected. Might be the check valve in the pump as well...... Only way to see if it really is the injectors, is to pull the fuel rail/injectors, pressurize the system, and see if any of 'em leak.

 

Thanks. I started it and the pressure went up to 38 and shut if off and after 2 hours it was down to 34ish.
If I happen to feel good enough some day I may do that just to see.

 

I don't think the injectors are the problem in that case.... Something else is going on.

 

I let it run and watched the exhaust reading it went from lean to rich over and over again. I checked the fuel sync setting (It idled at 960 not 1000) and it read at idle 3/4/15 over and over again. I want it set at 3 bouncing to 4 seems like it might be normal but idk how it can jump to 15. That would explain my atrocious fuel economy though.

For the record that is a new distributor in the last 2 or 3 years.

 

How old is the timing chain? O2 sensors?
