Default what is the problem

My 1995 dodge dakota has been acting a little strange lately, wants missfire , even to the point of back firing. Could it be the crank sensor ,or the camshaft sensor, a a fautly fuel pump. This morning I was driving up the driveway ( back fireing all the way ) when it decided to run prefectly, short burst, then starting back fireing again. Any help you can answer !!

So far as the PCM is concerned, there aren't any problems then. Ain't that fun? Check your fuel pressure, see what it looks like.

What should the fuel pressure be (about) for the V6 and the V8?

I think it should be in the neighborhood of 40PSI at idle. Should stay close to that as you rev the engine.

Is it possible to see it fluctuating dramatically and if so what would cause that? What kind of fluctuation would be considered "dramatic"?

It should be pretty stable. If you get more than say, 5 psi fluctuation, time for a new pump.

There is a 1995 factory service manual in the FAQ section that you can download.
The pressure is listed as 35-45 psi. I didn't see anything about fluctuation. That said fluctuation is usually a sign that a pump is giving out. Any kind of pump.
