i changed the thermostat in my truck today, when i started it i notices it revs up and down almost to the point where it stalls, i believe im getting code 22, and tips on how to fix
Agree with HY. When the thermostat was changed out a vacuum line nearby could have been knocked off or damaged. Start searching in the vicinity of the thermostat. but it could be a problem elsewhere if a line got yanked on. The thermostat on my 5.2 is buried and you have to take off the AC compressor and move a bunch of stuff out of the way to get to it. Not sure which engine you have but that kind of a repair begs for collateral damage on these old Dakotas.

code 22- Engine coolant temperature sensor input below minimunm acceptable voltage. **
or
Engine coolant temperature sensor input above minimunm acceptable voltage. **
I believe the sensor is right next to the Tstat housing. You will probably have had to unplug it to get at the Tstat.

That certainly is worth looking at for the reason you mentioned. But the revving up of the engine kinda sounds like a vacuum leak. But then I can't say I've ever tried running the truck with the temp sensor disconnected/damaged either.
i just put a new sensor in before the thermostat, do you know what these lines are for, i needed to take the top one off and cut it because it was leaking, after reconnecting it is when it started happening? is on the driver side going into the cabbin?
Looks like a heater hose. Goes to (or from) the heater core. Can't see that having anything to do with engine revving up unless you took something else out while repairing it.
i let it run for around 30 minutes ands the surging has seem to go away, but i have one for question the temp gauge is jus maxed out, after putting the new sensor in any way to diagnose that, after 5 mins of truck running its goes all the way to hot, i dont believe its over heating, and the thermostat is open
