Hey I have a 93 instrument cluster that I was looking to put into a 88 Dakota. Will it work or do I need major modifications? It does have the tach which is why I'm looking to swap

 

From googling, it looks like 89-93 is listed as having the same dash but I found a pic of the back of the 88 dash and compared it and it looks like it would theoretically work... everything is in all the same locations as the 89+ so I think you may be in luck. The only snag I can think of is if your truck has the signal for the tach already wired up or if you would need to run the signal wire to the cluster. If so you should be able to just grab/find those parts, run the wire up wire it in accordingly and boom you have a tach

 

Does the 88 use a VSS, or is there a physical cable drive for the speedo?

 

My 89 has a cable so I’d assume the 88 does as well. From looking at pics of the 88 dash vs the 93 it looks like they both use the cable

 

93 should be electronic???? I think the cable went away in 94 on the full size trucks.... But, not sure how accurate that is.

 

I tell you guys what. I appreciate the recommendations so far. Ima send pictures of what I got in the morning. Possibly compare my own dash to the one I got but long story short I got all the connectors for the back side of the 93 dash as well as the entire cluster. Would that prevent me from having to run a wire into my own cluster?

I believe said cable that you speak of is also on my 88. If I'm not mistaken it runs from the back of the cluster to the front left wheel backing somehow 🤷🏽‍♂️ idk I'm not great with these things.

 

Chrysler, or Dodge just was like **** it throwing these things together from what I seen ngl

 

On the left is the 96 on the right is the 93. I'm trying to get the 93 instrument cluster swapped into the 88 I have. I do apologize for such a late response I've been rather lackluster with providing info and a response. One thing I could note for distinguishing the difference between the photos of the two is that I still have the parking thing in the 93 cluster vs the other. As well as the gray cavity/whole in the back of the 93
