I haven't changed my spark plugs, wires, cap n rotor in ages. Can't remember the last time...20+ years?? I think I have platinum plugs. They were the thing back then. I know the wires are older than the plugs. Anyway, I'm gonna replace it all. I'm going with some NGK plugs (copper) and wires. See no reason for platinum or iridium plugs. I drive the thing max 2K miles per year anymore. Thoughts?
Don't make the mistake I did and have the rotor brake. :-/ I did not make sure the cap was fully seated. The rotor had a screwed on tang that came off. Chaos and panic ensued.

Oh, no!
You know, you're not the first person who said that. My motive for going with copper is solely based on that's what the engine was designed with. I can't say I have any reason to believe the platinums are causing any trouble. What would you have predicted using the platinums?

That have ran them without trouble. Given the expense of rare earth plugs though, I just avoid them. Not like I drive a lot. I have changed my plugs once in about nine years..... I may change 'em one more time before I die.
What about the wires? Should those be copper too? Anything wrong with NGKs stainless steel (is that the wire protective?).

I think most are carbon core, or some such. I just go with some good quality wires, 8mm minimum, and call it a day. The braided stainless jackets on the wires are for appearance only, not like it improves performance or anything. (but, they DO look cool.)
I don't think any wires are actually copper.

Changed out plugs, wires, cap n rotor. They were all in decent shape. No oil on any of the 8 plugs, dry as a bone. Definitely some wear on all the components but I've seen worse. Checked my records. Last time I changed out plugs, wires, cap, n rotor was in 2007 (53,000 miles ago). I thought I had platinum plugs but they weren't. They were OEM Champion coppers.
