Some Lights On My Dash Stay On???
i just got an 88 dak 3.9 5 speed and it doesnt even have a tachometer. all it has is a shift light. there is also what looks to be an oil light that lights up red and flickers. the truck has oil in it and seems to be running fine. any ideas?
Based on other cars I have worked on, the Oil light is triggered by a "pressure switch" type sensor. In other words, over X psi of pressure the switch is off, below X psi the switch is on. The switch typically has 1 wire going to it. The switch provides the ground for the light. If you can find the oil light switch, disconnect the wire, and see what the light does. Then connect the wire to ground and see what the light does. If the light works as expected, On/Off, then the problem is either in the switch, or with the Oil PSI triggering the switch.
i'll try that when i get a chance to look at it. the truck was my friend's and that light was always on but it always ran fine, so im thinking it's just the switch.
