Default Some Lights On My Dash Stay On???

on my instrument panel there are two lights that come on when i start up my truck and they stay on until i switch the truck off and i have no idea why. My ABS and my parking brake light both stay on. I use my parking brake when i park somewhere because my truck is a five speed and i use it just in case the gear doesnt hold the truck and i make sure its retracted all the way every time i start to pull off. I dont have a clue why these two lights could be on but hopefully you guys can help me out.

On mine, I have those two aswell as the windshield washer fluid light and the maintanace needed are both on... I found out today that my low fuel light actually works...

Also, I just replaced the resistor for the blower motor and it still isn't coming on... any ideas?

Any help on this would be appreciated...

ABS light - Lucky for us, the ABS system can put out trouble codes. Gain access to the ABS controller (located in the cab on the passenger side, just forward of the door obviously on the right side) There should be a connector near the actual module. Momentairily ground this connector and count the number of times the anti-lock light flashes. Repost the number of flashes and I will tell you what it means.

Parking brake light - may be related to the ABS light. Try removing the electrical connector from the parking brake assembly, if the light than turns off, the switch needs to be adjusted. If the switch does not turn off, disconnect the brake warning switch connector (apparantly a 1 wire connector located around the master cylinder, its supposed to sense pressure differentials between the two hydrualic brake systems. If that doesn't turn the light off, post back.

Windshield washer light - See the picture below. That connector (when the fluid level is low) provides a ground path for the low washer fluid light. If you unplug that and the light goes off, I would suspect the sensor is bad.

Maintenance required light - the 1990 service manual (my 1996 doesn't have a maintenance required light) states, "The engine controller records the vehicles mileage ... every 8 miles ... the engine controller checks for 60,000, 82,500, and 120,000 mileage trip points. When the current mileage matches one of the above ... the EMR light is activated." It than goes on to list the things that should be replaced at the respective mileage. To properlly turn the light off, you have to have Chryslers DRB tool (which is expensive). The light doesn't actually warn you of a malfunction, so its safe to remove it.

Anyways... yea. Post your results/questions/etc back and I'll see what we can find out .

check your brake light fuse for the abs light,no brake lights makes my abs light come on on my 92
the park brake light just means its not fully released, adjust it or remove the connector,it has NOTHING to do with your antilock brakes(if equipped)

Okay, I got the fluid level switch fixed...

now for the parking brake, I can't find the switch or any wiring leading to pedal mechanism...

The ABS light, I turned the key on and grounded a blackwire with a white stripe and the ABS and the Brake light both blinked together 8 times and then light up for a second and then repeated this several times

Anything else?

Now one thing... this truck's wiring was MURDERED by one of the POs and I have most all of it fixed... The owner I bought it from said he had just had all new rotors and pads put on the frontend... Could this cause a difference between the front and rear fluid pressures or could it be that the rears need adjusting?

The brake lights all work perfectly... that only took me a full day to rewire and cure all the POs wiring issues that had left the truck with only headlights and left rear brake light.

Actually, it could be because of the ABS system.

Lit up for a second and than repeated flashing eight times?
From the FSM
When the ground is removed the ABS and Brake Warning Lamp will begin to flash. The initial flash will be a long flash followed by one or more short flashes. The long flash indicates the beginning of the DTC number. The short flashes are a continutation of the DTC number. You must count the long flash and short flashes for an accurate trouble code number.
For the meaning of the trouble codes, see the attached picture.

The book says to perform both normal and firm stops in the 25-40MPH range (with at least one ABS stop). See if there's any unusual brake conditions (grabbing, dragging, noises, vehicle lead, etc). Post the results back.

As for the parking brake switch wiring, I'll have to take a look at mine... it couldn't suprise me if its hard to find.

Thank you for your help with this. I have been doing nothing, but chasing wiring gremlins since I bought it. So it wouldn't surprise me for something else to be wrong. Should I remove the "maintanance required" bulb or is there a place to unplug it easily?

When I grounded it, I couldn't see the light at first... but once I got up there I started counting the blinks... I saw eight short blinks and then one longer one and then it repeated... Or that is how I saw it, but by the way the FSM states it was actually, one longer blink and then eight short blinks, so that would mean it would be trouble code 9???? Correct? That would mean something is wrong with the speed sensor? I can say the complete wiring harness for the transmission was HAMMERED!! I replaced two of the wires that were burnt to a crisp... I know different wires carry different resistance, so will I need to get a tranny harness now? I can pull the tranny harness back out and find out which color code wires I replaced and which ones have splices... actually I think they all have splices!!!

The light blinked all the way to work and never changed the blink number or rate... I will watch it in the morning when I fire her up to go home and let you know if it changes.

Try the following:
Since you retrieved the codes from the ABS controller, it is safe to reset the controller to see if the code comes back. To reset, either disconnect the connector from the controller, or disconnect the battery for at least 30 seconds.
I'm confused as you are on the code. I think its spitting out a code 9. [&:] Oh yea, and thats to the rear wheel speed sensor (located on rear axle). Resistance of the RWAL speed sensor should be 1000-2500 ohms.

As far as the maintenance required light. You can remove the light if you remove the gauge cluster. Or... the wire can magically get cut. At the computer its pin 56 (a gray/white wire).

So from my reading you count the long blink then all the short blinks after until you see the long blink again. Does it usually start with a long blink because mine started with I think 3 short ones?

counting the long blink and not the first few before it I had 10 blinks. The wiring looks fine so its probably the sensor right?
