Default finally found a nv3500

Well I found a nv3500. It came out of a 2004 4.7 motor Dakota. I got the transmission complete with the shifter and clutch fork. Now I need to find a 231 d transfer case. Mine is a 207 and I think the spline count is wrong. I think the 88-93 Dakota will be correct. I still need the mechanical speedometer drive.
For a engine, I am looking for a complete engine out of a Durango (5.9) Then I plan to switch over to a carb intake, (I have a holley advenger 670 cfm carb) and then go with a mopar performance distributor kit. Will probably leave the rest of the motor stock.
I considered going with the factory fuel injection, but to be honest, I worry about what it would take to set it up.
I only drive the truck 2-4 thousand miles a year, so the fuel saving isn't such a big deal.

But here are a few pictures of the nv3500 BTW I know the shifter is on backwards. When they pulled the transmission, it was left out with a paper stuffed in the hole. I quickly reinstalled the shifter to transport.

The 207 is new process right? They might be the same spline count.. What's the spline count on the Trans? I may have a input gear I can sell you then you can instal it into your 207 that way you can keep you cable drive speedo..

I will have to count it to verify, but I think it is a 23 spline on the trans, but "I think" my 207 is a 21.

That's right. I do have a 23 spline input gear with a dual bearing I can sell you then you can use your 207 just a thought

Congrats on locating the 4X4 NV3500 93RT! I know that took a little searching, at least it does around my neck of the woods.

A couple things I found when I put mine in; 1) your clutch master and slave cylinders from the old np2500 should work if you trim off some of the master cylinder's mounting flange, 2) the foremost 2 mount holes on the rear of the NV3500 line up with the holes in the late 80's transmission cross-member, and 3) the NV3500 will not go in from underneath unless you unbolt and raise the front of the cab, or drop it in from the engine bay (with the engine out of course). The attached bell-housing won't squeeze past the cross-member that goes under the front of the trans if you try to come at it from underneath - unless you raise the cab.

I appreciate the offer. But I would rather find a 231d if possible. If I don't and you still have it, I will talk to you about then. Thanks though.

Ragged, I remember reading most of the above from your build post you have going. But I did not know about the transmission not going in from the bottom................. I wonder what they did different on the 95-96 trucks? Also, were you able to assemble the engine-transmission as one assembly and install it or did you set the trans first and then the engine?

I've often wondered how the NV3500 goes in on V8 5 speed 95-96 Daks. Maybe they don't have that cross-member under the bell housing. I tried putting the trans in mated to the engine, but it didn't go. I ended up dropping it in by the bell housing and once it was thru the opening supporting the rear with a floor jack. Also, I should have said the slave cylinder flange needs to be trimmed, not the master.

I knew you meant the slave cylinder. I wanted to ask you another question on your conversion. Did you replace the front or rear seals on the transmission? Not sure what it takes, if its worth while or not. As much trouble as its going to be to pull the transmission after all is put together, it may be worth while to replace the seals now.

FWIW A few weeks ago, I installed a carter external electric fuel pump. Recently, a local junkyard just converted to a self serve style? Its called 234 pick-ur-part.
When I get a chance, I am going to see if they have a 231d transfer case, 88-93? and also, I am going to be looking for a intrepid fan.

If I was you I would look for a 241D stronger tcase UNLESS if your going to run a SYS.. The 241D is also 23 spline and bolts to your Trans.. Assuming you have to modify DriveShafts doing the 231.. Idk what your plan is with your truck like off roading and any kind of beating. Since your looking for a different tcase might as well upgrade to the 241 and has a little bit more insurance knowing your drivetrain is a little bit beefed up.. I've broken two 231.. Not very strong when your playing just my two cents
