Default Pricing Question for rebuilding transmission

Hi,

Just wanted to get an opinion on a price quote I have.

Transmission in my 99 Durango is having issues (118,000 miles). Took it to a place and they are saying the Torque converter is bad and has to be replaced and tranny hasto berebuilt,it will run$1800 (includes labor and taxes).

So I wanted to see if this is average or what?

Thanks!! Roger

Yeah that's about right and when you rebuild the tranny make sure to change out the radiator too or you will have more problems down the line trust me on this...

Thanks!!!

MG, what are some of the signs I should look for on the radiator?

HS, ok, I'll take my $1800 over $3000. :-)

Basically just replace the radiator, you cannot do a reverse flush on these radiators and when the tranny goes out the torque converter throws a lot of metal into the cooloing lines and plugs up the radiator. I would suggest if you are mechanically inclined to just replace it yourself after the tranny has been rebuilt. Another thing is that if you have a little extra money you may want to get an oversized torque converter and a 3 or 4 core radiator. The stock radiator is too small for the engine it is trying to cool.

Green is right on the money. The radiator should be replaced to keep any and all medal flakes from returning to the system. It only takes a couple to restart your trans issues again. Some of the D's have a trans cooler that can be reversed flushed but if you are going all the way you might want to get a nice bigger trans cooler. I run the radiator, and 2 seporate trans coolers before the line returns back to the trans. Mine stays nice and cool. I'm not quite sure the temp as the fluid returns back to the trans. I need to get a temp sensor in there to get an accurate temp reading.

That's an awesome deal but is it a 3 or 4 core? Might as well do it right while you're in there.
Mine cost me $500ish and I was too broke to go the right route of getting a 3 or 4 core. That's what happens when you break down 1000's of miles from home. Definitely call the people who run the site and see about the 3 or 4 core it shouldn't be much more than that one.

No problem Green.

I still think you'll be very happy with a custom built trans like me though.
