Iv'e heard yes and no on the awd vrs 4wd vrs 2wd for the rt's, so i cant give you a good option. As for the engine bay and turbos, everything is pretty much the same....

Your turbo should fit just fine. Everything is the same up front. The R/T D only came with AWD but if you don't want it you can always do a t-case swap. n8ech switched his D to AWD without any issues.

send n8ech a pm about his old transfer case... he swapped his 4wd for an awd... maybe he still has it...

definately go with something that has a 2wd option for big dirty burnouts

Spidaman;

The R/T package did not come around until 2000. It is true that the R/T came standard with AWD. If you are a fan of burnouts, you would want to stay with part time 4wd, or swap the T case for a part time unit.

As Deerang said, I converted my 01 SLT+to AWD from the part time case. My part time case has a new home in Texas so that a young man's Dakota truck could live again. Being that the 01 and newer t cases are electronic, you would need a 2000 or older case to make the swap.

Spidaman,

It may be cheaper for you in the long run and provide with more custom modification for your Durango to simply get a SLT 2WD with a 5.9. This will save you lots of time and money inmodifications as well as weight savings and better MPG's. All you need then is a strong tranny to hold up to your engine mods and you can do burnouts all day long. Powerwise between the SLT and R/T 5.9 is not much, the difference is in the computer programming that gives the R/T a slightly better horsepower.
